Household Garbage and Recycling Schedule

2010 HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE AND RECYCLING PICKUP SCHEDULE/ALTERNATE TRANSFER LOCATIONS

Garbage Stickers can be purchased at the following locations:

Municipal Office,

Victoria Street Shell Gas Bar (Goderich),

Carlow General Store,

Point Farms Market,

Lucknow Co-op,

Lucknow Village Market,

Ashfield Landfill,

Amberley General Store,

Dungannon Service Centre,

Port Albert General Store,

WHAT IS RECYCLABLE?

NEWSPRINT & HOUSEHOLD FINE PAPER

▪         flyers, TV guides and other inserts acceptable

▪         bag newsprint, white and coloured writing paper, photocopy

          paper and

          envelopes or tie in bundles and place beside your recycle bag.

▪         brown envelopes or tissues are not accepted.

MAGAZINES, CATALOGUES, PHONE BOOKS

▪         bag or bundle with the newspaper

BOXBOARD

▪         includes cereal boxes, shoe boxes and detergent boxes

▪         plastic handles, inserts, and liners must be removed

▪         place smaller boxes inside of the larger boxes

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD

▪         clean corrugated cardboard only

▪         we cannot accept waxed, oiled or blood-soaked cardboard

▪         flatten and bundle cardboard to dimensions 2 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft.
The maximum bundle weight is 40 lbs or 18 kg

***All the above items must be placed beside recycle bag***

GLASS JARS & BOTTLES

▪         remove metal lids and place in recycle bag

▪         all jars and bottles should be rinsed and placed in recycle bag

▪         windowpane glass, ceramics, pyrex, crockery, and mirrors are NOT accepted

TIN & ALUMINUM /FOOD & BEVERAGE CANS

▪         rinse cans and place in recycle bag

▪         paint cans, scrap metal, and auto parts are NOT accepted

▪         clean aluminum foil and pie plates are acceptable

PLASTICS

▪         currently we can only accept PET soft drink bottles

▪         and small mouth rigid household plastics (PET #1 thru #7)

▪         HDPE include bleach, fabric softener, and vinegar containers

Clear Waste Disposal Bags

Please be advised that effective March 1, 2009 all garbage going to the Mid Huron Landfill Site must be in clear or semi transparent bags. Only residents living in the COLBORNE WARD of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh will be affected.

Out of consideration for people's privacy, one opaque or solid colored 'privacy bag' full of garbage is allowed to be placed inside the larger clear bag. The privacy bag can be no bigger then 20"x22", about the size of a grocery bag. Please click here for further details.

YEAR-ROUND HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL IN HURON

The permanent year-round Huron County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Depot located at the Mid-Huron Landfill Site in Holmesville is now open!

The operating hours of the Depot will be the same as the operating hours of the Mid-Huron Landfill and are as follows:   Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.   Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon, closed Sunday and Holidays
