SECTION: Drainage POLICY: Drainage Works Operating
________________________________________________
COVERAGE: This policy will serve as a guideline when undertaking any and all aspects of drainage work within the Township.
________________________________________________
Policy Statement:
1. Prior to undertaking any drainage work and prior to considering connections or outlets for any surface or sub-surface drainage, all landowners, contractors and road authorities MUST contact the Township for a review and approval of the proposed work. The Township must also be contacted by any utility company prior to undertaking any work near or across a Municipal Drain. Failure to notify the Township may be a contravention of the Township’s Drainage By-Law and the proponent may be responsible for the consequences.
This policy applies to, but is not limited to, connections to an open Municipal Drain, a closed (tile) Municipal Drain, a natural watercourse, a roadside ditch, or any other outlet. Some of the items to be reviewed and approved include; where and how connections are to be made, materials and erosion protection proposed, and outlet markers.
All landowners who anticipate doing subsurface drainage work and who wish to make use of funds available through the Tile Drainage Act must make application at the Township office prior to commencement of any construction. An inspection must also be arranged during the construction. Failure to notify the Township may result in the denial of the application and/or the loan.
The Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh prohibits tile drain outlets into road ditches and/or road allowances.
The Township Office is located at 82133 Council Line, the mailing address is R.R. No. 5, Goderich, Ontario, N7A 3Y2, and can be reached by phone at (519) 524-4669 or by fax at (519) 524-1951.
